getUBetter, a mobile application (app) designed to help people with musculoskeletal (MSK) injuries and conditions manage their symptoms, has been launched in Leeds.
The app has been designed by clinicians in emergency care, GPs, physiotherapists, and orthopaedic consultants, and it’s available free to everyone aged over 18 registered with a Leeds GP practice.
The app can help people treat back, leg, neck, shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, hip, knee, ankle, and foot pain, sprains and strains, and tendon inflammation and swelling.
Janice Patterson, Head of MSK Service, Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust, said:
“Many MSK conditions can be treated at home with the right self-care. getUBetter provides a safe and effective way for people to manage a range of MSK conditions. It can give people a better understanding of their condition and how to manage it confidently, with clear guidance as to how and when to seek further help.
“The app could be of real benefit for people across Leeds, whether they are looking to start self-management or are already receiving care.”
Dr Dave Kirby, Associate Director, Clinical Professions at the Leeds GP Confederation said: “We’re delighted to launch the getUBetter app for our local patients because it’s safe and easy to use, and provides a personalised recovery tailored to how the patient is feeling.
“This includes day by day and step by step guidance, exercises based on an individual’s stage of recovery and a symptom checker with advice to help people seek help when needed.
“The app does not replace traditional health services, but works alongside them and offers extra support and guidance.”
