Reviewing Involving You, our annual report on involvement

Lead: Leeds office of the NHS West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (ICB in Leeds)

Partners: People's Voices Partnership partners

Period: 1st Jun 2022 - 27th Jul 2022

To help us develop how we report on involvement activity, we asked people to share their feedback on the Involving You 2021-2022 reports.

Brief description of project

Involving You is a look at some of the work that health and care organisations have done over the course of a year to involve local people in shaping services in Leeds. It is a document that is written for anyone with an interest in our involvement work. This includes patients, members of the public, health and care staff, voluntary sector organisations, service providers, and the local authority (Leeds City Council).

It’s important to understand the needs of local people and we use their feedback to improve our services. The aim of Involving You is to demonstrate how we are working with local people to develop and provide high-quality, safe, and kind services.

Involving You has been developed and co-produced with patients and the public for the last few years. We have always involved people in its development. As part of this process, we asked people who received copies of the documents to tell us what they think about them.

Who did we speak to?

We received 111 responses from patients, carers, members of the public, members of staff, and representatives of health and care organisations.

What and how did we ask?

We asked people to tell us their first impressions of the reports, what they liked, what could be improved and if the documents were accessible. We also asked people to tell us the ways in which they would like to be communicated with in the future.

We asked people to share their feedback using a survey that was available digitally and in paper format. People could also share their feedback via email and over the phone.

What did people tell us?

People told us:

  • They liked the design, layout, and the way the Involving You documents were written.
  • That the documents were accessible.
  • That the main document is too long and preferred the summary version.
  • There should be more focus on the issues that people are experiencing in health and care services.
  • People want to hear more about what is improving in relation to health conditions (such as cancer or mental health), rather than by organisation (Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust).

What are we doing?

We have shared the report with the People’s Voices Partnership (PVP). This is a group that brings together involvement leads from across health and care organisations in Leeds to work together as one team.  We will work together to use this feedback to develop how we communicate with the people of Leeds about our involvement activities.

We will work with local communities to ensure that we are communicating in a way that works for those who will be reading it.
