Proposal to merge Shadwell Medical Centre, Oakwood Surgery and Rutland Lodge Medical Practice
This involvement provided an opportunity for patients registered at Shadwell Medical Centre, Oakwood Surgery and Rutland Lodge Medical Practice to share their views on a proposal to join the practices together.
Brief description of project
Representatives from Oakwood Surgery, Rutland Lodge Medical Practice (including the branch, Carlton Gardens Surgery), and Shadwell Medical Centre have been in discussions about combining the three practices (a merger). They need to do things differently across these GP practices to ensure that the services are sustainable in the future.
The purpose of this involvement work was to inform patients, staff, and local people about these plans and to hear feedback about this proposal.
Who did we speak to?
The practice spoke to 177 people who with either registered with the practices or carers of people registered at the practices.
What and how did we ask?
The practice shared details of the proposed change and asked people to share their views.
A letter was sent to all households registered at the three practices. People were able to share their views through an online survey or by attending one of three drop-in events. Paper copies of the survey and surveys in alternative formats were available on request. The practice also held a meeting with their Patient Participation Groups (PPGs).
What did people tell us?
People told the practice that they generally supported the change because working together made financial and practical sense. They also said that it was important not to lose the ‘person feel’ of smaller surgeries. All the feedback is included in the involvement report, which you can read below:
What are we doing with people’s feedback?
The practice have written a report on the involvement and added it to their website. The report responds to some of the questions raised in the involvement.
From 1 November 2023 Rutland Lodge Medical Practice, Shadwell Medical Centre and Oakwood Surgery have merged and operate under Diamond Medical Group.
