MiiCare Project Privacy Notice

We understand how important it is to keep your personal information safe and secure, and we take this very seriously. We have taken steps to make sure your personal information is looked after in the best possible way, and we review this regularly.

Please read this privacy notice (‘Privacy Notice’) carefully, as it contains important information about how we use the personal and healthcare information we collect on your behalf.

The data controller of your personal information for the purpose of supporting your care is your registered GP Practice. A controller decides on why and how information is used and shared. That responsibility will usually pass to other health and care organisations, when they are supporting you.  Health and care organisations are required by law to maintain records about your health and treatment or care you have received.    These records ensure you receive the best possible care.

For the purposes of this pilot, we will collect:

  • Your personal identifiers and contacts (for example, name, date of birth, address and contact details)
  • Details of your GP Practice
  • Data concerning your physical/mental health (for example details of falls in the last 12 months, details of any appointments or diagnoses and details of any medications you may be taking)
  • Your living arrangements such as whether you live alone, how many rooms your property has and whether you have WIFI
  • Your preferred language
  • Whether you have any pets
  • Whether you have regular visitors or carers
  • Whether you already have Telecare installed.
  • Preferences around where the kit is placed,
  • Preferences about reminders
  • Preferences about carers/family members having access to your information
  • Your care plan

These will all be collected as part of your care planning conversation with the proactive care team when you consent to being part of the pilot.

In addition, MiiCare acts as a data controller for the information the system generates and that they hold about you. The MiiCare System collects information to inform alerts, generate insights and identify changes:

  • The information listed
  • How you move about your property
  • Your behaviour patterns (such as when you usually get up)
  • When you interact with the AI assistant

Whilst the system collects information about you this is used to inform clinicians and the MiiCare system will not make any diagnoses or clinical decision about you.

All information about you is stored in UK data centres so you are covered by UK Law in relation to how your data can be used, and all data is protected in transit so it cannot be accessed except by the intended recipient.

Your personal information will be kept secure and confidential.

The purpose of processing your personal information and the lawful basis for doing so is to support your direct care and the administration of that care.

GP Practices will keep a record of your health care records including your care plan as they do now.  Your health records will be kept in accordance with the NHS Records Management Code of Practice and associated record retention times.

Under data protection law you have certain rights in relation to your personal information.  You can find out more about your rights and how we look after your information from your GP Practice’s Privacy Notice on its website.

Who will have access to my information over and above my GP Practice?

MiiCare Ltd and Telecare Service at Leeds City Council will have access to data input to the system from your care plan, data collected by the system and any insights the system generates around increases in risk in order to ensure the system can understand your behaviours/walking pattern and detect any changes to these.  They also collect your name and contact details in order to ensure your kit can be installed and configured correctly for your requirements

Your GP Practice will also have access to a secure web based report which shows them what changes in movement and behaviour have been captured by the MiiCare system to enable them to have more detailed conversations with you about your needs.

If your condition gets worse, your GP Practice  might need to talk about this with other health and care professionals, people who work in the Local Authority or people who work for the third sector/charity organisations to help you in getting the support you need.   Only relevant medical details in relation to your health and care will be shared

Telecare – your call data will be held for 6 years by Telecare.  This data will be retained even if you are offboarded from the pilot for any reason.

MiiCare keep the data for the period of the project, after which the data will be annonymised and any person data will be deleted, unless explicitly requested by the data controller to be retained for longer.  Data destruction is by request to MiiCare by the data controller.  You can withdraw your consent to be part of the pilot at any time and we will still ensure that your data is securely removed from MiiCare’s systems.

Should you wish to change who has access to your data at any time please contact The Proactive Care Team in your GP Practice
