Understanding the experiences of people with a respiratory condition towards the end-of-life

Brief description of the project

We know that caring for a family member or friend at the end of their life at home, or in a care home, can be difficult.

In Leeds, we want to make sure that people receive the care they need, where they want it, and at the right time. We want to understand if there’s anything we could do differently to help prevent unexpected emergency admissions to hospital, support families and unpaid carers better, and keep people safe and well at home wherever possible.

Who will we speak to?

The survey is designed to hear from staff working with people at the end of life and learn from their experiences. It is also for staff to record conversations with people at the end of life and their families / unpaid carers.

What and how will we ask?

We will ask staff to consider how we might support people to stay well at home for longer and prevent some unplanned hospital admissions. Staff will also any responses to the same questions with people at the end-of-life, and their families / unpaid carers.

What will we do?

At the end of this piece of work, we will summarise the findings in a short report.

The report will be shared with the project steering group and will feed into learning and future improvements relating to this issue. In the coming months, we will add more information to this page to describe what people fed back and what will happen next.
